On
7th June 2001 in Mostar the solemn ceremony of the commencement of
the works at the Old Bridge foundation repair took place, where more than 150
invitees were present. The ceremony was held at the Labyrinth bar terrace in
Podkujundžiluk from where you can have a nice view on the Old Bridge remains,
the platform with the extracted stone and the small scaffolding which was
mounted by Yapi Merkezi company, which one of these days was making preparations
for the commencement of the works at the Old Bridge foundations. Short speeches
were held by: the Project Coordination Unit deputy director Mr. Tihomir Rozić,
acting director of the World Bank in Sarajevo Mrs. Mariann Kurtz, deputy mayor
of the City of Mostar Mr. Hamdija Jahić, Project Coordination Unit director Mr.
Rusmir Čišić and the others. Following the old tradition, Yapi Merkezi
company had the charter with the daily newspapers and the various coins inserted
into the Old Bridge foundations as a symbol of peace and happiness. The dive
into the magnificent and the mysterious Neretva river off the Old Bridge ruins
was made by Mr. Nazečić Deri and in such a way topped up this small ceremony.
