These
wider implications underlie AKTC's and WMF's current efforts towards
the rehabilitation of significant structures.
More recently, work has concentrated on the actual implementation of
pilot ınıtıatıves such as
the
restoration of the
shop and carried out with direct financing from AKTC and the WMF.
These
experiences have provided opportunities for revitalizing local
traditional industries, training and experimenting with traditional
construction system and repair methods.
The
lessons learned and confidence gained through the implementation of
these projects underlie the integrated nature of urban rehabilitation
and the need to tackle it from its opposite ends:
- the
future sustainability of urban conservation must
be addressed at a general plannıng level
- but
it is only through practical and visible rehabılıtatıon
efforts that
conservatıon
can be given a
concrete meaning and contribute directly to the development of the
communities concerned.
