The Historic Cities Support Programme

The Historic Cities Support Programme (HCSP) was established in 1991 as part of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture.

It promotes urban rehabilitation efforts in historic cities throughout the Muslim world.

HCSP provides planning assistance and technical support to
national institutions, local government bodies and community groups.
It endeavors to apply international restoration standards
and disseminate appropriate urban conservation practices.

Its initiatives go beyond physical interventions and strive
to improve living conditions as well as promote social and economic development in the communities concerned.

The more these development efforts are rooted in
communityneeds, local resources and cultural values, the more they are likely to succeed and be sustainable over the long-term
